Funding & Training: All students admitted to the MFA program are guaranteed up to four years of full financial support. All admitted students qualify for Graduate Assistantships, which include a stipend paid over nine months (currently $13,500), and full payment of graduate tuition. For information regarding current Graduate School policy on Graduate Assistant health coverage, please consult the Graduate School directly. First year Graduate Assistants with less than 18 hours of graduate coursework in English have no direct responsibility for teaching; they work as tutors in the Writing Center and have a variety of other research assistant duties within the English Department such as assisting a professor or an office. In the second year and beyond, GTAs routinely teach two courses per semester. Please note: first year students who already have 18 or more hours of graduate coursework in English begin teaching in their first year.

Application (Deadline Dec. 31):
- Manuscript: 20-30 double-spaced pages for fiction; 10-20 double-spaced pages for poetry
- Statement of purpose: The first line should state desired Specialty Area in the English department
- Three letters of recommendation
- Official transcripts
- $60 application fee
